Welcome to Construction Web's News PageThe LSC Building Skills Building Business ProjectTue 24 May 2005 Arising from a successful application to the London North Learning and Skills Council for ESF Co – Financing revenue, CONSTRUCTION WEB are now rolling out this exiting new project – in partnership with O’Regen – the main regeneration agency of the LB of Waltham Forest. This exciting yet challenging programme is aimed to boost the capacity of the SME’s in construction throughout the sub regional economy. The aim of the project is to provide free help and advice to the SME sector on their Business and Workforce Development Plans. In many ways this project extends the work we carried out in 2004/05 when CONSTRUCTION WEB partnered with the LB Haringey “Trade Local Initiative”. The aim is to help boost the economic growth of the SME sector by assisting them to become familiar with the new “Sustainable Development in Construction” Agenda of the UK Construction Sector Skills Council. This policy framework has been introduced for all parts of the sector following the government’s acceptance of the recommendations of the EGAN report. In order to get the project started we have just launched our new CONSTRUCTION WEB CONSTRUCTION BUSINESS NETWORK that any existing SME can join. Over the next three years, we hope to help in particular enterprises owned or managed by members of ethnic minority groups and of course encourage the entry of women into the sector. The particular benefits the SME sector are that our new staff, Sheila Wright
(Business Development Officer) and Graham Arnold (Workforce Development Officer)
are able to visit on a one to one basis and help any business prepare their documentation
to help them win new building contracts from the Local Authorities in the area
or through other large public sector commissioning bodies – such as the Housing
In addition, we will be able to open up a greater number of opportunities to find work through the CITB Apprenticeship Programme for CONSTRUCTION WEB's registered clients seeking jobs and also help existing employees improve their skills by further career planning and training. |
